Alicia Padilla Presents on Licensing Procedures

On Wednesday March 26th, SID’s Alicia Padilla gave a virtual presentation on the process of obtaining a Professional Engineer (PE) license. Designed for young engineers and college students, the webinar was hosted by the American Society of Civil Engineers Younger Members Group (ASCE YMG). It covered topics such as the path to licensure, the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam, the Principals and Practice of Engineering (PE) exam, and how to get licensed in other states after obtaining initial licensure.

Alicia explained how college students can start preparing to get licensed and how that preparation continues after graduation. She took an in-depth look at the FE and PE exams, which are now computer based, and broke down what to expect in terms of exam content and testing environment. The changes coming to the PE exam in April 2024 were also covered, as well as changes coming to the Structural Exams. Alicia explained how to obtain a PE license and the varying requirements between states, including specific requirements for structural engineers. The webinar had a high attendance of young engineers and was well-received.
