Delta Companies Tank Inspections

Delta Companies, Inc. is a highway and site development contractor that specializes in asphalt paving and road construction materials. Their services include asphalt paving; aggregate base construction; site development; airport construction; grading; and drainage along with producing road construction materials including aggregates; hot-mix, cold-mix, and warm mix asphalt; emulsions; and other asphalt related products. Special Inspections & Design provided external inspections on 10 above ground tanks in accordance with the National Asphalt Pavement Association (NAPA) and the Steel Tank Institute (STI). The inspector for all tanks was an API 653 and a STI Certified Inspector. Three tanks were located in Paragould, AR and seven were located in Cape Girardeau, MO. The tanks consisted of vertical and horizontal tanks and containments included fuel oil or asphalt cement with capacities ranging from 10,000 - 30,500 gallons. Ultrasonic testing was used to determine the thicknesses of the shells and bottoms of each tank and visual inspections were performed for the foundation and supports, containment area, insulation, manways, nozzles, ladders, stairways, handrails, and platforms. SID also prepared an in-depth report for each tank that included an inspection summary and repair recommendations.
