The Lemay Wastewater Treatment plant is one of the largest plants in the Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District and can treat up to 340 million gallons of water a day. Special Inspections & Design provided a condition assessment on existing pipes by an API 570 certified inspector. The existing carbon steel Return Activated Sludge piping was evaluated for the below grade tunnels that run east and west in the plant. The assessment consisted of visual inspections of current conditions; nondestructive testing to determine remaining wall thickness; visual inspections of welded and bolted connections; observations of pipe saddles and hangers for wear, deflection, and missing components; and a detailed API 570 in-service piping report.
