Structural analysis of a 160 year old wood framed chapel.
Lewis and Clark Community College (LCCC) is a two-year higher education institution with multiple campuses in the metro east area. The Godfrey campus, located on the grounds of the former Monticello College, is known for its historic and beautiful location. The Benjamin Godfrey Memorial Chapel is one of the most notable buildings on the Godfrey campus. It was built in 1854 and moved to its current location in the 1990s. It is a wood-framed structure that has undergone various additions and renovations since its construction and still has some of the original panes of glass in its windows. Special Inspections & Design provided structural engineering services to analyze the existing chapel. Starting in fall of 2018, SID made multiple site visits to visually inspect the structure and conduct a field survey. Items surveyed and inspected include the ground floor, attic, and bell tower within the chapel. SID provided reports that detailed the structural findings and included recommendations for repairs.
